Demon Slayer: How Muzan Kibutsuji Became A Demon?
The demons in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba have never been one-dimensional villains, and the same is true for Muzan Kibutsuji, the Original Demon.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a demon slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko turned into a demon
Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted child who earns a career selling charcoal in Taisho-era Japan. His tranquil life is disturbed, however, when a Demon slaughters his whole family. Nezuko, his younger sister, is the only one who has survived, but she has been converted into a Demon as well! Tanjiro embarks on a perilous quest to restore his sister’s health and eliminate the Demon who has devastated his life.
It won’t be simple for Tanjiro to learn how to slaughter Demons, and he has no idea where to begin. Another person named Giyu Tomioka’s unexpected entrance might give some clues… However, Tanjiro must first prevent Giyu from murdering his sister!
So How Did Muzan Kibutsuji Become a Demon?
Muzan Kibutsuji is the ultimate evil in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, as terrifying as he is unknown. Muzan, the first demon and hence the Demon King, has reigned terror in Japan for 1,000 years. Muzan is practically eternal in the best meaning of the term, a monster whose strength makes even the worst demons tremble with terror in his presence.
Muzan is a horror beyond understanding, capable of surviving decapitation and even whole bodily annihilation, as well as the capacity to produce and govern demons. Muzan, like all other demons, was once a human, despite becoming the Demon King and the embodiment of evil.
Muzan Kibutsuji was proclaimed stillborn over 1,000 years ago, during Japan’s Heian Period, when his heart stopped beating many times within his mother’s womb. Muzan coughed and struggled on the fire as he was going to be incinerated, demonstrating that this small, ailing newborn still had the desire to live.
Muzan, on the other hand, would never totally escape his close contact with death, as he was eventually diagnosed with a deadly disease that claimed his life before he was 20. Muzan, refusing to accept death, sought out a physician who experimented on him in the hopes of giving him a few more years of life.
Kibutsuji grew upset at the lack of results after the physician treated Muzan with medication prepared from a flower known as the Blue Spider Lily. Muzan, on the other hand, recognised he had gained great, inhuman power as soon as he spilt the doctor’s blood.
Muzan also immediately recognised that if he were ever exposed to sunlight, he would perish. Muzan’s immortality had been bestowed by whatever medication the physician had concocted with the Blue Spider Lily, converting him into the world’s first demon.

Muzan immediately developed a taste for human flesh and had no qualms about consuming victims to satisfy his need. While Kibutsuji freely embraced the benefits and expenses of immortality, he was nonetheless mortified by his inability to tolerate sunlight.
Muzan had lived his whole life on the verge of death, and now that he was no longer on the verge of dying, he was trapped by his new weakness, unable to spend his life in the light. Muzan was enthralled by his demonic power, but he refused to accept anything less than utter immortality as the ideal creature, ensuring that death would always be a foreign concept to him.
Muzan Kibutsuji Tries to overcome his weakness
After being granted immortality by the Blue Spider Lily, Muzan attempted to duplicate the doctor’s work with the flower in order to overcome his sensitivity to sunlight.
The physician’s notes were inconclusive for the Progenitor of Demons, the knowledge on the location of the flower and how to employ it having perished with the doctor. Muzan never found the Blue Spider Lily in the 1,000 years that passed between his rebirth as a demon and the events of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Muzan began making additional demons in the hopes of breeding one that was immune to sunlight, but he soon discovered that he could use them for other purposes as well. The Twelve Kizuki’s Upper-Ranks are the only demons he appears to trust or even like.
Muzan evidently has a soft spot for Akaza, allowing him to continue the quest for the Blue Spider Lily despite his aversion to injuring women. He appears to have true faith in Kokushibo, Upper-Rank One, as the two of them previously journeyed throughout Japan murdering Sun-Breathing users — the only Breathing Style capable of causing Muzan’s body severe, lasting injury.

While demon slayers and even demons themselves have reason to dread the Demon King, Kibutsuji’s main worry is reverting to the frail, dying creature of his boyhood. Even though he revels in the blood and misery that he and his demons have inflicted, he has no desire to conquer or destroy; all he wants is to become the ideal creature. Throughout his lengthy existence, he has perpetrated several horrible acts of wickedness, yet his reason is entirely human: he is terrified of death.
