Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Creator to Write A Sci-fi Romantic Comedy

The second fan book of the popular mangaKimetsu no Yaiba”, which was completed in May last year, “Kimetsu no Yaiba Official Fan Book, Vol. 2” was released on the 4th of February. Author Koyoharu Gotouge, in the book, noted how they wanted to write a science fiction romantic comedy story as their next project.

The fan book contains information about the swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps, their friends who fought with them, and demons. You can read three new one-shots (29 pages in total) that depict the aftermath of the battle of Sumijiro and the demons at that time.

Among them, Gotouge’s comment also included, “I was surprised because I was watching an old movie with aliens again recently. My impressions as a child and as an adult are completely different. It’s interesting, isn’t it? ”

Partly because of that, they confessed, “One day, the author wants to draw a sci-fi romantic comedy that will make people burst out eight-pack abs after reading.”

Now that the serialization of “Kimetsu no Yaiba” has been completed, they have not released any other work. But Gotouge has shown their intention to continue drawing manga, and “SF” (science fiction) which is the opposite of the Japanese-style adventure drama “Kimetsu no Yaiba”. They confess their desire to challenge “love comedy”.

“Kimetsu no Yaiba”, which was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from February 2016 to May 2008, is popular with a cumulative total of comics exceeding 120 million copies. Set in the world where human-eating demons lived in the Taisho era, a charcoal-selling boy, Tanjiro, changed his life completely when his family was murdered by a human-eating demon. A story about going on a journey to avenge the demon who killed his family to turn Nezuko back into a human.

A TV animation was broadcast from April to September 2019, and it was so popular that it became a social phenomenon. The movie version, which connects the story from the final episode of the anime, is currently in theatres and has become a big hit with box office revenue exceeding 36.8 billion yen.
