Endgame writers finally explain what happened to the Soul Stone

We Need To Know What Happened To The Soul Stone!

We all know that the last two Avengers franchise revolved around Infinity Stones. The use of Infinity Stones helped the Marvel directors to conclude Phase 3 of cinematic universe.

A Recap over Infinity Stones Events…

Ironman with infinity stones

Keeping track of the Infinity Stones is no easy task. From Asgard to Midgard, from Xandar to Vormir, the stones have been hidden. Their presence became everyone’s top priority to stop Thanos from collecting them.

The Soul Stone was perhaps the most mysterious of all the Infinity Stones before the movie’s release. Thanos eventually found the Soul Stone on the planet Vormir. He made the decision to murder his adopted daughter Gamora in order to receive it.

Time Stone can be used to turn back time, and the Reality Stone can be used to alter reality. So it’s easy to see how those artifacts could be devastating in battle.

According to Collider, Russo offered clarification on power of Soul Stone during the Q&A:

Of course when Thanos goes to the Soul Stone itself, to speak to his dead daughter, he obviously has an ability to resurrect, conjure the spiritual representation of the people who are dead.”

Black Widow and Hawkeye end up going to Vormir in 2014 to collect the Soul Stone. Both were unaware of the tragic cost involved. One had to die to sacrifice for other. And after a fight to decide who will be the one to make the sacrifice, it’s Black Widow who ‘wins’ and falls to her death.

How did Captain America restored the Infinity Stones?

Fans who have already seen Endgame might remember how Cap volunteered himself to restore infinity stones. He hoped from timeline to timeline in order to take back all six stones that the Avengers borrowed as part of the time heist. It was unclear about the future of infinity stones. Yet, Bruce banner had an idea about this by an Ancient One during an alternate version of the Battle of New York. Bruce was told that the Infinity Stones would need to be returned from where they originally came.

Captain America

Markus and McFeely explained during a recent episode of CinemaBlend’s HeroBlend podcast. Captain America took responsiblity of returning back the infinity stone and he faced no trouble returning the Soul Stone. But sadly, the soul-for-a-soul exchange that Black Widow and Hawkeye made with the keeper of the Stone, Red Skull, wasn’t reversed in that moment.

Recently, Avengers: Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely shed some light on the matter. Though you might not be happy with what they had to say.

Speaking to CinemaBlend, the two likened it to a one-way transaction, with Markus explaining that you put it back, but you don’t get anything in return. It’s not like a pawn shop.”

Unfortunately, this means that, for all intents and purposes, Black Widow is all but gone from the MCU.

“It’s a good question. I think it is an everlasting exchange,” said McFeely when asked about how someone can return the Soul Stone.

That being said, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Avengers: Endgame marks the last time Natalia Romanoff will be seen on the big screen. With a Black Widow movie in the works, some are speculating that the film will take place sometime in the past. And honestly, they’re probably right.

As for what all of this means for the Black Widow solo film, it’s looking likely that the film will probably delve into Natasha’s past.

In fact, Endgame director Joe Russo basically confirmed as much during a recent interview when he revealed that Marvel is “not telling linear stories anymore.”
