In a press release on Monday, Japanese publishing company Kodansha announced that their manga series Orient would be getting an anime adaptation. Orient is the work of Shinobu Ohtaka, the creator of Magi. A 30-second long teaser has been released on Kodansha’s official Youtube channel, although no broadcast dates have been finalized.

The press release also reported that the manga would be ending its serialization in the company’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine soon—its 113th chapter in the magazine’s sixth edition of 2021 would be it’s last. Thereafter, the manga would continue in the Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine from its March edition on February 9. Bessatsu is a monthly magazine, so longer chapters are expected.

Kodansha Comics also publishes the series in English, and here is their synopsis:

At age 10, best friends Musashi and Kojiro sat in excited silence as Kojiro’s father spun tales of evil demons who preyed on the innocent, and the warriors who defeated them. Practicing swordplay, the two swear an oath to become the strongest in the world. But as they grow up, Kojiro turns cynical, and Musashi comes to realize that he can’t turn back 150 years of demon rule on his own. He’s being called a prodigy with a pickaxe, and he’s almost ready to settle for a life of labor. Yet he can’t shake the feeling that he still has a responsibility to act…and, soon, the injustices of his world will force his hand…

The battle fantasy manga series started in May 2018 and has 11 tankobon volumes in Japanese, and 7 in English.

Ohtaka is best known for her work on Sumomomo: The Strongest Bride on Earth, which ran from 2004 to 2008 in the Young Gangan, and Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, which began in 2009 and ended in 2017 in the Weekly Shōnen Sunday, which also inspired an anime series in 2012.
