Will Chris Hemsworth Return After Thor: Love and Thunder? Is There More for Thor in the MCU?

Will Chris Hemsworth Return After Thor: Love and Thunder? Is There More for Thor in the MCU?

Thor: Love and Thunder is setting records and making MCU history ahead of its July release, which goes far beyond it being the first time an MCU solo hero has gotten a fourth film. Its debut trailer dropped just 82 days before the film’s release, and it managed to bring in the fourth-most views ever for a trailer released online.

Along with Love and Thunder’s ground-breaking moment as a fourth solo movie, it will also break barriers and set new standards for representation in comic book films. Tessa Thompson will represent the LGBTQ+ community as King Valkyrie and Natalie Portman‘s Jane Foster becomes the new Thor in the MCU during her first starring MCU role in nine years.

To many, Jane lifting Mjolnir looks like Marvel’s way of phasing Chris Hemsworth‘s God of Thunder out of the Avengers roster. This, combined with the movie’s main villain being Gorr the God Butcher, has many fans questioning whether Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will make it out of his fourth MCU movie alive.

Despite this, a popular industry source is claiming that the MCU still has more in store for the Thor that fans adore.

Will Chris Hemsworth Return After Thor: Love and Thunder?

Movie industry YouTuber John Campea recently claimed that one of his sources says Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will appear in the MCU again after Love and Thunder.

Campea was asked on The John Campea Show if he thinks Thor is going to die in Love and Thunder. Campea said that, although he “can’t remember if (what he knows) came from a public source or a private source,” he stated that Love and Thunder “ain’t gonna be the last time we see Chris Hemsworth as Thor, no.”

Campea added that he “won’t say why” he knows that Thor will return in a future Marvel project, further implying that he has specific information regarding Thor’s MCU future.

Granted, Campea’s claim is nothing more than a quote from a YouTuber ahead of a big summer blockbuster. Even so, there’s been no public confirmation that Thor will be returning to make another Marvel movie following Love and Thunder. If John Campea has heard any word about Thor‘s potential fate in the MCU, it would have to come from one of his private sources in the industry.

Many fans will remember that Campea usually gets good information when it comes to Marvel movies. Most recently, the geeky guru took to Twitter to make fun of what he thought was a doctored set photo from Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he didn’t realize he shared with the world the first ever image of Sony’s three Spider-Men together.

Further evidence that Campea may have an inside source on Love and Thunder came when he recently tweeted that he had the opportunity to see a finished look at Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder when there was no official footage released of Christian Bale’s villain to-date. Similar to how Campea handled his Spider-Man snafu last fall, that tweet was later deleted; however, he reasserted a day later on The John Campea Show that his company got to see footage of Gorr that made them “very happy.”

If Campea is right about Thor sticking around in the MCU, it could be because the fight that starts in Love and Thunder may not end by the time the credits roll. Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher could serve as a bigger threat than a one-off like Thor’s past two franchise bad guys, which could warrant the continued use of Chris Hemsworth’s hero for at least one movie more.

Alternatively, Thor sticking around could mean he takes on a similar role as Odin and would be available to assist Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor when she needs him. He could also repurpose Stormbreaker and take on Heimdall’s old job as the Guardian and Gatekeeper of Asgard, or he could take on a role as King Thor if Valkyrie grows tired of ruling the land. If Thor survives another movie, the possibilities of where he can go are endless.

Find out if the God of Thunder survives to see another MCU movie when Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8.
