Avengers: Endgame – New 2988 Time Travel Date Pointed out By Eagle-Eyed Marvel Fan

Having a runtime of three hours, Avengers: Endgame is a film full of hidden Easter eggs, some which can be found easily, and others, that fans of the film are quick to point out.

In a subreddit dedicated to Marvel Studios, containing facts on everything related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an eagle-eyed fan recently pointed out a mind-boggling Easter egg.

The Easter Egg:

The fan points out that at some point in Avengers: Endgame, it is quite apparent that someone or a group of people had traveled to January 2988.

While it could be said that someone went forward in time into the 29th century, it is likely that they traveled back in time instead, that too by quite a huge amount.

Fan Theories:

Many fans have commented on the Subreddit thread and pointed out the reference to Thor: The Dark World.

Come to think of it, in the movie, Thor’s grandfather Bor had possessed the Aether.

Also, the First Battle of Svartalfheim took place in 2988 B.C., and it was then that Bor had his first encounter with Malekith and the Dark Elves.

And it is difficult to find the actual reason why the year is shown in the movie when the “Bad” Nebula is seen bringing time-traveling Thanos along with his armies through the shield.

But there are suggestions that it was during this time that the Avengers may have tried to go back into time to get the Aether.

Either that or they may have been simply testing how far back in time they could travel to.

There is yet another theory which suggests that Nebula might have programmed the time so that she could send Thanos back into it, but that he was unable to defeat Bor as his Asgardian army.

Joe Russo, the co-director of the film, has also mentioned in the film’s digital commentary track that the Mad Titan was able to reverse the workings of Pym Particles so that it was possible to travel through time.
