Bihar’s COVID death rate increases by 72%

Bihar’s COVID death rates have been revised and report a 72% increase.

Bihar’s COVID death count was the 15th highest in the country.

The three-week audit of March 2020 and 2021 showed 1600 died while the new audit shows 7775 people died from April to June 2021.

This staggering figure is 6 times more than last year.

The new revision shows that a total of 9429 people have died in Bihar due to COVID.

This figure also affects the Centre’s daily Death figures.

The state Health Department had earlier reported the total deaths to be 5500.

72% more had been added after confirmation from all 38 districts.

Currently, Bihar stands at 15th position in the list of states with the highest number of COVID cases.

According to reports, the most number of deaths occurred in Patna

Patna also accounted for most additional deaths after verification.

Records of three government-run cremation centers in Patna confirm 3243 “CoVID cremations”.

These discrepancies have brought sharp criticism from the Opposition in Bihar.

They have accused the State Government of fudging figures to hide failures.

Following the allegations, The Patna High Court has asked for an audit of casualties in the April-May surge of COVID infection.

” If a person dies in Patna and was cremated there, the death would be counted as the victim’s native district and not Patna”.

Pratya Amrit, Principal Secretary, State Health Department explained.

Bihar has also reported a reduced recovery rate from 98.7% to 97.67%.

New reports of COVID cases were reported to be below one lakh as COVID cases decline in India.

The recovery rate is at 94.77 percent and 94,052 cases are reported every day.
