Inter-dimensional travel may have just been confirmed for Avengers: Endgame thanks to Chris Evans.

The final film of Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is only a week away from hitting theaters, and so far Marvel Studios has done all they can to keep plot details under wraps.

This has not made it easy on fans to know what they can expect to see, but there have been some subtle clues along the way, including during filming.

Even before we found out that half of the universe’s population vanished at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, set photos from Avengers: Endgame appeared to be teasing both a time jump and time travel.

The photos showed a blonde and older Tony Stark along with Chris Evans back in his Captain America costume from The Avengers.

Time travel was later teased during the mid-credits scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp with the mention of time vortexes in the Quantum Realm.

This has since been used as a basis for many theories, while others have wondered if other dimensions or realities could be involved.

WHAT TRANSPIRED ( SPOILERS AHEAD)

During a segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the cast members of Avengers: Endgame was asked a series of questions.

When they were asked what their biggest enemy was, Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, and Jeremy Renner all used Thanos for their answer.

However, Chris Evans’ response – while partially in jest – may have also confirmed that inter-dimensional travel is part of Avengers: Endgame. Here’s what he said:

“Honestly, I’d say chafing. If you’ve ever run through an inter-dimensional portal wearing a skin-tight body suit, you know what I mean.”

It is important to once again mention that Evans is clearly having fun with this answer, so his tone does make this answer more difficult to decipher.

That said, specifically mentioning an inter-dimensional portal is what makes it more likely to be a true slip up.

He could’ve simply said, “If you’ve ever run wearing a skin-tight body suit” and still have gotten the joke across.

Additionally, we’ve never seen Captain America run through any type of portal, much less an inter-dimensional one.

REPERCUSSIONS OF INTERDIMENSIONS IN ENDGAME

If we do take Evans’ response as confirmation that inter-dimensional travel is part of Avengers: Endgame, then it gives the movie another element that many were not previously considering.

This could potentially open up the door for a true multiverse to be born, which is something Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson teased a few years ago as the future of the MCU.

That said, directors, Anthony, and Joe Russo have previously said that alternate realities were not part of their plans for these two Avengers films.

They did previously lie about the title in the press though, so they could’ve done the same here to try and protect elements of the film.

Thankfully, Avengers: Endgame will be in theaters shortly and everyone will get to see how the movie plays out.
