Elizabeth Olsen Teases Scarlet Witch Return: Where Could She Appear Next in the MCU?

Elizabeth Olsen has once again fueled speculation about her return as Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although she was last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), her fate was left ambiguous, leaving the door open for a potential comeback.
Elizabeth Olsen Wants to Continue Playing Scarlet Witch
In a recent interview with Collider, Olsen expressed her enthusiasm for reprising her role, stating:
“I do feel very lucky that I’ve been able to play a character for over 10 years of my life, and I’d love to keep doing more.”
She compared her experience in the MCU to starring in a long-running TV series, highlighting how projects like WandaVision allowed her to reinvent the character in unexpected ways.
While Marvel Studios executive Mary Livanos previously claimed Wanda was “off the table,” Olsen’s comments suggest that her return is still a possibility.
How Could Scarlet Witch Return?
1. Avengers: Doomsday
With Avengers: The Kang Dynasty being reworked into Avengers: Doomsday, there’s a chance that Scarlet Witch could return as one of the most powerful forces in the MCU. Her immense magical abilities could be crucial in battling Doctor Doom, who is rumored to be the film’s central villain.
Wanda’s past struggles with morality and power could make her a wildcard—will she be an ally or a looming threat? A moment similar to Iron Man’s legendary “I am Iron Man” scene could be in store for her, solidifying her legacy in the MCU.
2. Young Avengers & The Children’s Crusade
With Vision Quest rumored to set up the Young Avengers, the Children’s Crusade storyline from the comics could be adapted into a full-fledged MCU project. This story follows Wanda’s sons, Billy and Tommy, searching for their mother after she mysteriously vanishes.
Given that the Young Avengers are slowly assembling (Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, America Chavez, and Ironheart have all debuted), this storyline could serve as an emotional and high-stakes way to bring Scarlet Witch back into the fold.
3. Agatha: Darkhold Diaries
Wanda’s magic and the Darkhold played a crucial role in Doctor Strange 2, and Agatha Harkness is set to return in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. While Wanda was referenced in Agatha All Along, she didn’t appear. However, if the series delves deeper into dark magic, it wouldn’t be surprising if Wanda made a surprise appearance—especially if she is trying to reclaim her power.
4. Marvel Zombies (Animated Series)
Though this won’t be a live-action return, Scarlet Witch is set to appear in Marvel Zombies, a What If…?-inspired animated series exploring an apocalyptic zombie-infested Marvel Universe. This will at least keep her character in fans’ minds until a full-fledged return happens.
Will Wanda Return?
With hints of her survival in Doctor Strange 2—including the mysterious red puff of smoke beneath Mount Wundagore—it’s unlikely that Scarlet Witch is truly gone. Whether she joins the Avengers, becomes an anti-hero, or even a major threat, one thing is certain: Wanda Maximoff’s story in the MCU is far from over.
