Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 To Hit Theatres Soon:
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 will soon hit theatres. They will also mark the end of James Gunn’s trilogy. But, according to recent reports, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 will have its setting at least a decade after the second volume. The trilogy has been a part of the MCU. Regardless, the first two installments have been primarily free from the larger ongoing storyline. It is also important to note that the second film has its setting just a few months after the first. Even though it hit theatres three years after the first, the storyline continued a few months after it.
The Setting Of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3:
Volume 3 follows a very different time passage in comparison to the traditional MCU approach. It breaks the approach that the movies have their settings in the years of their release. It also gives fans a chance to move forward in real-time.
However, the ending of Volume 2 did jump a few years ahead. And in the film, this happens so that the Guardians can get closer to their versions in Infinity War and Endgame.
James Gunn has confirmed that Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 will take place after the events of these Avengers films. Moreover, Gunn is also the executive producer of both Infinity War as well as Endgame.
This somehow gives us the guarantee that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 will be set in a whole different time. This will be at least a decade after the Guardians’ last film. And it is also because of the dramatic shift in the MCU timeline after Endgame.
The Reason Behind The Different Timeline:
Endgame has a five-year time jump from 2018 to 2023. So, everything comes before this leap, Endgame apparently concludes in late-2023. Furthermore, Spider-Man: Far from Home advances the MCU to 2024. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has its setting sometime in 2014. So, there is already a nine-year gap until Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, if it picks up immediately after Endgame.
But it is very likely that there will be an additional passage of time from Endgame’s finale to the opening of Guardians Of The Galaxy 3. And in such a case, the setting of the movie will be a full decade after its predecessor in the franchise.
Why Such A Huge Time Passage?
The reason why this passage of time between the two films is possible lies in the ending of Endgame. In the film, Thor boards the Benatar with Rocket and jokingly regards the team as the Asgardians of the Galaxy.
This initially was a set-up for Thor to appear in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. Instead, it might be a way for the Guardians to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. This could also be where Thor leaves his new friends behind.
