Is Agents of SHIELD Canon in the MCU? Chloe Bennet Finally Breaks the Silence

For years, Marvel fans have argued about whether Agents of SHIELD is truly part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ABC series launched in 2013, tying directly into events like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But as the seasons went on, those connections weakened, and the debate only grew louder. Now, actress Chloe Bennet, who played Daisy Johnson (Quake), has given the most direct answer yet.

What Did Chloe Bennet Say About Agents of SHIELD?

During Dragon Con 2025, Bennet admitted, “We are not really considered canon.” She emphasized that Marvel Studios has not contacted her about returning as Quake and insisted she would tell fans if she knew otherwise. Bennet even joked that the series might make a “weird, random comeback” someday but clarified that, as of now, it isn’t officially part of the MCU.

Why Do Fans Believe SHIELD Should Still Be Canon?

The show originally leaned heavily on MCU events. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill appeared, and episodes linked directly to big films. Even Thanos’ attack on Earth was mentioned in Season 5. Despite this, Agents of SHIELD was excluded from Marvel’s official timeline book, fueling doubts about its place in continuity.

Did Marvel Ever Address the Debate?

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president, has been vague. In an official timeline book, he acknowledged past Marvel stories created outside the studio but hinted that the Multiverse Saga could allow timelines to “crash or converge.” That leaves the door slightly open for SHIELD characters to reappear, even if their original series isn’t canon.

Could Agents of SHIELD Exist in a Different Timeline?

One theory is that the early seasons happened in the main MCU timeline, but when the series introduced time travel from Season 4 onward, it veered into a branched reality. If true, Marvel could still bring back Quake or other characters without breaking continuity.

Will Quake Ever Return to the MCU?

Bennet herself expressed disappointment, noting she could have appeared in Secret Invasion and suggesting it “probably would have been better.” Still, Marvel seems hesitant to revive the Inhuman storyline, especially since Ms. Marvel’s origins were rewritten from Inhuman to mutant. With Avengers: Secret Wars expected to soft-reboot parts of the MCU, SHIELD’s future looks uncertain.
