James Gunn Takes Advice From NASA Experts for Guardians Film

Gunn recently used his social media to answer some fan questions about his various projects and took the opportunity to share a rather exciting detail about the Guardians franchise. When asked if he ever consulted experts for his films, Gunn revealed that he always spoke with NASA scientists before making every Guardian release.

James Gunn Instagram Story

“ I have very long conversations with NASA scientists before every Guardians film, after they read the scripts. They are science fantasy more than science fiction, but I still like them grounded as much as possible in real science,” he explained.

NASA experts have often been consulted about films, a recent example being the ninth film in the Fast and Furious franchise. In this case, director Justin Lin wanted to know how realistic the movie’s space car was. Of course, the franchise is already partially based on the real world, unlike Guardians of the Galaxy, which takes place almost entirely in space.

Gunn’s dedication to keeping things as realistic as possible is admirable, although one must wonder what NASA scientists had to say about Gunn’s ideas. Did they already make suggestions for characters, ships, and planets in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
