The adventures of Riko, Reg, and Nanachi continue in Made in Abyss Season 2! They’ve entered the sixth layer of the abyss, and will now finally explore the Capital of the Unreturned. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 2.

About Made in Abyss

Made in Abyss is an anime adaptation based on Akihito Tsukushi’s manga series of the same name. In the town of Orth, there is a strange giant hole going deep into the earth called the Abyss. Very few raiders have been able to return from there to narrate their experiences. An orphaned girl named Riko longs to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a raider. She, along with a robot resembling a human boy called Reg who she discovered, descend into the abyss in hopes of finding her mother Lyza.

Recap of Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 1

Episode 1 begins with showing us the past and the background story of a young girl called Vueko and how she escapes her abusive guardian.
After escaping, she joins an expedition of pilgrims called the Ganja led by Wazukyan and Belafu to search for the mythical Golden City at the bottom of the Abyss.
With the help of a special compass Vueko possesses, the Ganja are able to find the island the Abyss is located on even though all of their ships, except one, get lost in a storm.
Vueko then has to reluctantly trade her compass for valuable information from a native tribe. The Ganja then continue on their journey, and they also encounter a native girl exiled from the tribe for being infertile.

Vueko sympathizes the girl and Wazukyan agrees to allow her to accompany them as their guide. The Ganja keep on traveling even deeper into the Abyss, learning about the Curse and fighting their way past many monsters until they reach the Ido Front, where they proceed to the sixth layer.
The episode then switches to the present where Riko, Reg, and Nanachi activate a transport pod with Riko’s new White Whistle. It transports them through the Sea of Corpses, an underground ocean full of bones and corpses of deceased wildlife.
Because the trip will be long and they’re not sure of the sixth layer itself, Reg recommends that Riko relieve herself inside the pod. Later when the pod reaches its destination, the trio exit and take their first steps into the sixth layer, the Capital of the Unreturned.
