Marvel Exec Confirms Wanda Maximoff’s Current Absence from MCU, Teasing Possible Return

Marvel Studios executive Mary Livanos has confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, is “off the table” in the MCU for now. After Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans were left wondering if Wanda had met her end after she brought Mount Wundagore crashing down upon herself. However, even Marvel’s official timeline and the show’s creators have been vague, leaving her fate “up for interpretation.”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Livanos revealed that Wanda’s story is far from over, although she is not part of the immediate plans, saying, “Wanda was taken off the table… Fans will have to tune in to find out more.”

Hints of Wanda’s Future in the MCU

Despite her apparent demise, there is no clear sign that Wanda’s story has reached its conclusion. Elizabeth Olsen herself hinted at multiple directions her character’s journey could take, suggesting she might return in future MCU projects. One possible avenue could be the upcoming Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (formerly Agatha: Coven of Chaos), where her son Billy Maximoff, played by Joe Locke, is rumored to appear. While Wanda might not play a central role in the series, her presence could still be felt through connections to her son.

Additionally, fans are speculating that Olsen could appear in Vision Quest, a series that explores the story of Vision. This project may even draw parallels to the couple’s emotional journey in WandaVision, as Vision builds a family in the comics with an android wife named Virginia—a role some think Olsen could portray.

Potential Role in Avengers: Secret Wars and Beyond

Considering Wanda’s significance within the MCU Multiverse, many believe she may have a crucial part to play in Avengers: Secret Wars. As one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, her influence over the Multiverse saga could be pivotal. Some are even hoping for the iconic comic storyline where Wanda utters the game-changing words, “No More Mutants,” a moment that could reshape the entire MCU as it prepares for the introduction of the X-Men.

Although Wanda Maximoff is temporarily out of the picture, her powerful arc, emotional depth, and strong connection to the Multiverse ensure that the Scarlet Witch’s story is far from over in the MCU. Fans will just need to stay tuned for what comes next.
