Marvel Prioritizes Black Panther 3 and X-Men for Phase 7 of the MCU

As Marvel Studios prepares to wrap up the Multiverse Saga with the highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027, all eyes are turning toward what’s next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While no official announcements have been made for Phase 7, insider Jeff Sneider has revealed that Black Panther 3 and a new X-Men movie are currently the studio’s biggest priorities moving forward.
After years of speculation, Black Panther 3 is finally moving closer to becoming a reality. Though Marvel has not confirmed the project publicly, studio head Kevin Feige has hinted that the story will take shape after the events of Secret Wars. Ryan Coogler is set to return as director, and Letitia Wright is expected to reprise her role as Shuri. Rumors also suggest that Denzel Washington has been cast in a mysterious role, which only heightens anticipation. With the legacy of Chadwick Boseman still deeply cherished by fans, Marvel is reportedly considering casting a new actor as T’Challa — F1 star Damson Idris being a frontrunner. The film could potentially release in February 2028, kicking off Phase 7.
Equally significant is the long-awaited MCU debut of the X-Men. The iconic mutant team has been on Marvel’s radar since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and fans have eagerly awaited their official integration. Director Jake Schreier, known for Thunderbolts, will helm the project, while Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie is currently working on the script. Marvel is reportedly looking to assemble a young, fresh-faced cast, with none of the previous Fox-era actors expected to return. Characters like Storm, Kitty Pryde, Jean Grey, and Jubilee are rumored to be part of the roster, with classic villains such as Mr. Sinister and Bolivar Trask also in the mix. If development proceeds swiftly, a May 2028 release slot — typically reserved for Marvel’s biggest titles — could be in sight.
Both Black Panther 3 and X-Men mark critical steps in Marvel’s next chapter as the studio eyes a soft reboot of the MCU post-Secret Wars. With the franchise approaching its 20th year, these projects are expected to redefine its direction and reenergize its global fanbase.
