Moreover, the Mad Titan is shown sleeping after being hit by Thor’s Stormbreaker in Avengers: Endgame. There is even a fake scene wherein Loki is seen projecting towards safety before Thanos kills him.

The alternative sequences in the scripts for Infinity War and Endgame do not come as a surprise, especially considering the reasons for it.

As a matter of fact, Robert Downey Jr. had read the whole script, as Joe Russo, the co-director, said in an interview. While Benedict Cumberbatch got a script with only his scenes, Chris Evans also got to read the whole script.

Why Don’t the Actors Read the Full Script?

Not showing the full script tends to take the pressure off of the actors.

Since these movies become their life while being shot, they may accidentally share a lot more than intended. So, the less they know, the less they have to worry about oversharing.

This way, Chris Hemsworth, for example, who plays Thor, does not need to know what the other characters are doing in the film.

They read their individual scenes and can thus avoid spoilers.

How Does This Change Their Work?

Doing this does make the work more tedious, especially because the directors have to discuss the scene’s context with the actors.

This helps the actors to understand exactly what is going on in the film and how it is progressing. Their work becomes difficult, but at the end of the day, it is worth it because the experience for both the actors and the audience becomes special.
