Marvel Zombies Confirms Yet Another Avengers Defeat Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Studios has revealed that the Avengers will once again fall, this time in Marvel Zombies, a new R-rated Disney+ animated series premiering September 24, 2025. The show, a spin-off from the popular What If…? series, explores an alternate MCU timeline where a zombie plague consumes Earth’s greatest heroes.
The official synopsis confirms the Avengers are defeated early on, setting the stage for a desperate band of survivors to take on zombified versions of Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Thanos, and Captain America. The surviving heroes must race across a dystopian world, risking everything to discover the key to stopping the undead threat.
For longtime MCU fans, another Avengers loss may not come as a surprise. The team’s defeats have been central to their story arcs, from Thanos’ universe-shattering snap in Avengers: Infinity War to Scarlet Witch’s mind games in Age of Ultron, and even Baron Zemo’s manipulation in Captain America: Civil War. These setbacks have defined the Avengers as much as their victories, making their latest downfall in Marvel Zombies a continuation of that theme.
What makes Marvel Zombies stand out is its darker, more brutal tone. As Marvel’s first R-rated animated project, it promises to push boundaries, offering fans a grittier take on beloved heroes. The imagery of a zombified Iron Man in a ruined city and the desperation of survivors adds a horror twist rarely seen in the MCU.
The question now is whether this string of losses will shape the team’s comeback in future projects. With Avengers: Doomsday set to release next year and Secret Wars looming on the horizon, the stage is being set for Marvel’s most ambitious multiversal showdown yet.
For now, fans can look forward to seeing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes fall in an entirely new way when Marvel Zombies premieres on Disney+.
