Marvel’s Eternals “Bollywood” Rumor Confirmed By Kumail Nanjiani

After the footage shown at CCXP, Marvel’s Eternals star Kumail Namjiani Has Confirmed That the Film Has a Bollywood Sequence.

Star Kumail Namjiani has said that Marvel’s Eternals will have a Bollywood scene. Eternals, which arrives in theaters later this year, is one of Marvel’s mysterious projects. It focuses on a group of immortal creatures gifted with incredible powers, which serve to protect humanity from their vicious counterparts, the Deviants. The “Unexpected Tragedy” of Avengers: Eternals’ official summary suggests that they will be cast out of the shadows for the first time since the Endgame.

Eternals’ large cast includes, in addition to Nanjiani, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Kit Harington, and Angelina Jolie. It’s directed by Chloé Zhao. Last December, lucky attendees of Brazil’s CCXP got to see some first-look footage of the film, which reportedly offered glimpses of several actors in costume. Among them was Nanjiani in full Bollywood garb, which piqued the interest of some fans.

Now Nanjiani has explained the Eternals Bollywood scene. Nanjiani opened up about his character, Kingo (as much as he could). As hinted at, in summary, the Eternals have been living on Earth for thousands of years. While most of the team worked to keep a low profile, Kingo has done precisely the opposite. As Nanjiani puts it:

“We were sort of sent to Earth thousands of years ago to protect Earth from these monsters called the Deviants, and that’s sort of our story. And a lot of it is set in the present so by this point, we’ve been on Earth for a long time, and my character, for instance, we were all like, ‘Alright, keep a low profile, nobody should know,’ and so I go and become a Bollywood movie star. That’s like my secret identity.”

Najiani further spoke about how exciting it is to be part of a series featuring several South Asian performers. As Nanjiani explained, “Oh my God, we didn’t get to like so many of us in one scene!’ Eternals is one of the most diverse Marvel films yet, featuring the franchise’s first openly gay protagonist (Henry Fastos) and its first deaf hero (Ridloff’s Makkari). As audiences continue to show their desire for more variety on screen, Marvel is gradually supplying these demands with Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings and Thor: Love and Thunder.”

The Bollywood sequence in the Marvel movie may seem out of place, but it seems to fit in well with the story. Nanjiani’s comment that the Eternals were meant to keep things quiet while Kingo became a massive Bollywood star might reveal some things about his character, namely that he’s far more outgoing and audacious than his teammates. Could this cause some conflict within the group? It’s still too early to say, but hopefully, it won’t be long before more information comes to light. The trailer for Eternals will soon be going online, perhaps with the release of Black Widow in May. Until then, fans can amuse themselves by portraying Nanjiani as a Bollywood dancer.
