Moon Knight Returns: Marvel’s New Midnight Sons Strategy Revives Oscar Isaac’s Storyline

Marvel Studios may be moving ahead with Oscar Isaac’s return as Moon Knight — just not in the way fans originally expected.
According to a new report from The Cosmic Circus, Marvel is actively developing a supernatural crossover project under the Midnight Sons banner. Instead of a traditional Moon Knight Season 2 on Disney+, the studio is reportedly weaving Marc Spector’s journey into a broader narrative that will eventually lead to a feature film.
A New Chapter for Moon Knight
While Moon Knight Season 2 was previously declared unlikely, this shift signals that Marvel isn’t done with the character. The sequel storyline will pick up after the post-credits twist from the 2022 series, where a third personality — Jake Lockley — was revealed to have taken control and assassinated Arthur Harrow.
In this new arc, Marc Spector and Steven Grant will reportedly uncover a mystery that forces them to confront Jake directly, deepening the exploration of his dissociative identity disorder (DID) and furthering the lore of Khonshu’s avatar.
Oscar Isaac, known for his complex performance portraying multiple personalities, is expected to return in this new chapter, alongside potential appearances from other dark MCU characters.
Why Moon Knight Season 2 Was Shelved
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, previously told ComicBook.com that the studio had shifted priorities:
“Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future. Moving forward, our priorities have shifted… I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road.”
That “road” now seems to be the Midnight Sons, a team rooted in the supernatural corners of Marvel Comics. Alongside Moon Knight, this team often includes characters like Blade, Ghost Rider, and Werewolf by Night — all of whom are slowly being introduced or teased in recent MCU projects.
The Midnight Sons Movie — What We Know So Far
Rumors of a Midnight Sons movie have been circulating for over a year, and reports suggest that Marvel has already hired a writer for the film. The concept allows Marvel to tie together multiple characters from past Disney+ shows and upcoming supernatural entries, offering a fresh direction that’s darker, edgier, and more grounded in horror.
- For Moon Knight fans, this shift is actually good news. It means:
- Jake Lockley’s cliffhanger will finally be addressed
- Oscar Isaac will return with a deeper, more complex arc
The character will be integrated into the larger MCU in a meaningful way
Streamlining the MCU’s Supernatural Side
Marvel’s new direction not only revives Moon Knight, but also helps consolidate the expanding post-Endgame universe. Instead of producing standalone seasons for each new hero, Marvel is now aiming for cohesive storytelling across fewer but more meaningful projects.
By anchoring Moon Knight’s next phase within the Midnight Sons, Marvel ensures continuity, depth, and connection — all without over-saturating the Disney+ lineup.
