Here’s what happened in the previous chapter, One Piece Chapter 1043:
- The latest chapter revealed Luffy’s defeat against Kaido. However, we are still unsure whether Luffy is defeated forever or if he will make a comeback in the next chapter.
- Momonosuke loses hope after hearing Kaido announce that he has defeated Luffy. He is convinced that the only option left is to surrender.
- But Yamato pushes him to keep going and not to give up after 20 years of dedication. They would rather die together as a unit than give up.
- The chapter ends with Zunesha exclaiming that he has heard a voice for the first time after 800 years. He tells Momonosuke that Joy Boy has returned.
- The identity of this Joy Boy has been a mystery for well over a decade, since the character was originally introduced in Chapter 628, more than 11 years ago!

- Zunesha mentioned Joy Boy. Kaidou’s history will most likely be featured in One Piece Chapter 1044.
- More about the Joy Boy will be revealed in these flashbacks. Luffy will be recognized by Kaidou, who believes he is deserving of the title of ‘Joy Boy.’
