About Platinum End

Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata created the manga series Platinum End. It was serialised in Shueisha’s Jump Square monthly magazine from November 2015 to January 2021.

It is a series about a student named Mirai Kakehashi who attempts suicide but is saved by his guardian angel, Nasse, who not only promises to protect him but also bestows special powers upon him because he is one of 13 candidates chosen by various angels to take on the role of God, who will retire in 999 days.

Recap of Platinum End Episode 18

After the freshly introduced God Candidate Miss Yuri’s initial escape from the authorities, this episode settles in to be one of the show’s more dialogue-heavy instalments. Platinum End Episode 18 is slightly fascinating yet mainly expected, with the gang debating who should be God and what that individual should do with their newly-acquired power.

All of the characters involved in this conversation act exactly how one would expect. Even the group’s two newest members speak in a way that always corresponds to our little knowledge of them. Unfortunately, when the spectator sees the debate unfold, this predictability makes the majority of the broadcast feel uninteresting.

Despite its predictability, the episode succeeds in doing what it sets out to do. Each character acts naturally, and the scenes flow together seamlessly.

Another factor that makes this episode have a minor impact on the plot is that it is unknown whether or not the final God Candidate would agree. Because the choice to halt the competition early appears to require unanimous approval, the final candidate’s decision could throw the entire process into disarray.

The introduction of that final candidate is the final part in Platinum End Episode 18’s tale. This one, like the rest of the characters in the series, feels like a character who will stand out among the others. I couldn’t begin to estimate how he would relate with the rest of the group because he exudes mystery. However, with the revelation that his angel is the Angel of Destruction, things appear to be spiralling out of control once more.

The visual design for the newest angel, the Angel of Destruction, is certainly the stuff of nightmares. The visual design of this angel is certainly the most striking yet, looking like something out of a Guillermo del Toro film. This visual appearance immediately puts the audience at ease with the show’s newcomers. However, I could see the show employing this style to play bait and switch with the audience when it comes to the new candidate’s objectives.

After all, is said and done, Platinum End Episode 18 provides a worthy conclusion to the series. While the episode is a little slow and dull at times, the topics and elements it tackles are relevant and vital at the time. Hopefully, now that the setup is complete, the series will return stronger with the next instalment.

Platinum End Episode 18 delivers a suitable entry into the series. While it feels a bit slow and dry, the concepts and elements the episode explore, feel practical and necessary for the moment. Hopefully, with this setup concluded, the series will come back stronger with its next entry.
