Disney+ has been Marvel Studios’ secret weapon throughout 2021. The expansion that the streaming service has allowed the MCU has been incredible. On top of its four theatrical releases, fans got five additional series to continue telling new stories.
The best part? They all mattered. WandaVision showed audiences how Wanda was dealing with her grief, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gave the world a new Captain America, and Hawkeye brought the Kingpin of crime back. Out of all of those, Loki was the most important.
The show followed Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief after Avengers: Endgame and his unintentional timeline led to him being taken in by the Time Variance Authority.
The organization self-proclaimed themselves to be the protectors of the Sacred Timeline—little did Loki know at the time that all the time-travel shennangians were orchestrated by the next big bad of the MCU: Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.
His second in command is Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer, who hopped through a TVA door into the unknown looking for answers in the last time fans saw her. One of the biggest questions coming out of the show’s finale is: where did she go? Will she find Kang and start their big romance from the comics?
Ravonna Renslayer Speaks On The Future
Actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw spoke about what might be ahead for her character in Loki’s second season.
Mbatha-Raw was quick to note how “[she] can’t say anything about Loki,” but she was able to tease that her character will “go to some deeper, darker places:”
“Oh, my God. You know I can’t say anything about Loki… the Marvel police will come along and just take me away. But no, I’m excited that it’s happening, and I really love my character. I think she’s unexpected and complex. And so, I’m excited to go to some deeper, darker places with her as well.”
The Dark Places Loki Will Go
Gugu Mbatha-Raw previously confirmed her return to the series, but this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. It would have been odd if her character didn’t return—a sizeable plothole even, all things considered.
As for what her role will be? There’s a solid chance that her romance with Kang could start, but that would likely require the big bad to show up in multiple episodes. This isn’t impossible, but it would be a big deal if it happened.
An even bigger question? Will Tom Hiddleston’s sophomore season bow before or after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania? Maybe fans will see Mbatha-Raw start her journey with Kang in an unexpected place.
