Robert Downey Sr. Died At Age 85, RDJ Mourns His Death

It has been confirmed that Robert Downey Sr. died at the age of 85 on Tuesday night. The actor and filmmaker breathed his last after battling Parkinson’s disease.

The younger Robert Downey took to Instagram to inform fans and the media about his father’s death on Wednesday night. RDJ posted a picture of his father in his younger days and wrote a heartfelt caption.

Robert Downey Sr. is best known for his classic films such as Putney Swope and Greaser’s Palace. He was a notable filmmaker and actor in the entertainment industry.

Robert Downey Sr. Died: Parkinson Disease

In his Instagram post caption, RDJ highlighted his dad’s achievements and his reason for death. “RIP Bob D. Sr. 1936-2021…Last night, dad passed peacefully in his sleep after years of enduring the ravages of Parkinson’s,” the younger Downey wrote.

RDJ also mentioned that his late father had remained optimistic even while battling the disease. “He was a true maverick filmmaker, and remained remarkably optimistic throughout,” the actor added.

The younger Downey also expressed his admiration for his stepmom, Rosemary Rogers-Downey. “According to my stepmom’s calculations, they were happily married for just over 2000 years. Rosemary Rogers-Downey, you are a saint, and our thoughts and prayers are with you,” he wrote and concluded the caption.

Robert Downey Sr: His Legacy

Born in New York City, the iconic filmmaker is known for directing many films. One of his most famous directed films includes the 1969’s Putney Swope. Downey Sr.’s other filmmaking credits also include other films such as Balls Bluff, Babo 73, No More Excuses, Pound, and Greaser’s Palace.

He also acted in several movies such as The Family Man, Magnolia, and Boogie Nights. Downey Sr. has always been very supportive of his son throughout his career and troubles in Hollywood.

When asked about the Iron Man star who faced drug charges a decade ago, his late father remained very optimistic. “I have a lot of hope. If he can stay focused and beat this, he can help himself and a lot of other people through his example,” Downey Sr. said at the time.
