Thanks to Ironheart, Mephisto will finally appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios’ intentions for the villain are much stranger than anticipated by fan speculations. Since WandaVision, when the Disney+ series seemed to allude to the presence of Marvel’s Devil continually, fans have been anticipating the appearance of Mephisto in the MCU. Recent rumors that Sacha Baron Cohen would play Mephisto in the upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart were confirmed by a Marvel Studios insider.
According to an anonymous production insider quoted by Deadline, Baron Cohen’s portrayal of the demonic supervillain is now being discussed on the set. The publication further claims that Baron Cohen has been seen in the Pinewood Studios area designated for Marvel Studios productions. It’s important to note that Marvel Studios has yet to publicly confirm if English actor and comedian Baron Cohen has joined the Ironheart ensemble, despite rising evidence that he will play Mephisto.
According to sources cited by Deadline, Cohen may take part in more potential MCU films following Ironheart. It’s possible that he will show up in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, which debuts in the winter of 2023, if it is determined that he is portraying Mephisto, the extraterrestrial demon ruler.
The chances that Mephisto will join the MCU in Ironheart demonstrate how far different Marvel’s plans for the character are from the hypotheses. He was supposed to show up in WandaVision to either assist in the creation of Scarlet Witch’s children or steal their souls. Mephisto was even said to be a part of Doctor Strange’s journey through the Multiverse of Madness and be related to Scarlet Witch’s quest to reunite with her children. Even the possibility that Loki might have included the villain rose for a while. Marvel’s decision to use Mephisto in Ironheart rather than a supernatural/multiverse project demonstrates how unexpected his MCU role will be.
Mephisto is one of the most cunning villains in existence, so it’s not hard to imagine him being adapted into something like Ironheart, especially if Williams needs to enlist the aid of other heroes. Mephisto is traditionally closely associated with Marvel’s more paranormal or mystic side, think Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch, or even Ghost Rider. After Ironheart, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto might be a crucial figure for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In late 2023, Ironheart is anticipated to make its Disney+ premiere.
