“Scarlett Johansson’s career embodies the essence of the American Cinematheque Award,” stated Rick Nicita, who is the board chair. Nicita mentioned that her immense talent could be seen back from her debut days as a child actor.

“Her immense talent has shone brightly from her movie debut as a child through her emergence as a megastar of blockbusters,” the Board Chair added. Over her career, Johansson had acted in various independent films with a number of directors and producers. Her role in the most commercial of franchises is what draws the board to award her.

“She has taken leading roles and supporting roles in movies budgeted big and small. Whenever she graces the screen with her luminous presence, the audience knows that they will see a dedicated artist at the height of her powers,” they said.
