Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Release Delayed—New Timeline Update

Fans eagerly awaiting Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (Spider-Verse 3) may have to exercise more patience, as recent updates suggest the film is still far from hitting theaters.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was a massive hit in 2023, making it Sony Pictures’ second-highest-grossing movie of the year, just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The sequel’s success heightened anticipation for the third installment in the Spider-Verse trilogy, especially since it was originally slated for release just 301 days after its predecessor—a record-breaking timeline for a follow-up.
Unfortunately, that rapid turnaround is no longer feasible, and the release prospects for Beyond the Spider-Verse continue to look bleak.
Disappointing Update on Spider-Verse 3’s Release
According to a recent report by The Cosmic Circus, Sony Pictures is far from ready to release Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the highly anticipated third film in the animated Miles Morales/Spider-Verse series.
During a Q&A session on the site’s discourse channel, Cosmic Circus journalist Alex Perez shared that the movie might still be two to three years away from completion:
“They’re working hard on it, and I’m hearing a lot of cool things for it. As for a potential release, I’m hearing we’re still 2-3 years out.”
This comes more than a year after Sony removed Beyond the Spider-Verse from its original March 29, 2024 release date, delaying the movie indefinitely.
When Will Spider-Verse 3 Finally Release?
Given that there was almost a five-year gap between Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, this extended delay isn’t entirely surprising. In June 2023, Gwen Stacy’s voice actor Hailee Steinfeld revealed that she hadn’t even started recording her lines for the third film.
By December, producer Chris Miller mentioned that the team was “knee-deep in it,” hinting at progress but also emphasizing the importance of getting this final instalment right. Both he and co-executive producer Phil Lord have been clear that the movie will only be released “when it’s ready,” showing their commitment to quality.
Musician D4VD (David Anthony Burke) offered a potential hint at the film’s release back in April, suggesting it might be ready by 2025. However, the latest updates seem to push that timeline further into the future.
In August 2024, actor Karan Soni told Times Entertainment that recording would start “in a few months,” indicating that production might not begin until late 2024 or early 2025.
Given these developments, it seems increasingly unlikely that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be ready before 2026. With recording and animation still pending, Sony may even opt to delay the release until 2027 to ensure the film meets fans’ high expectations.
While the wait may be longer than anticipated, Sony Pictures and producers Lord and Miller are confident that the final product will be well worth it for fans when it finally hits theaters.
