Marvel’s Upcoming Phase

From the beginning, Marvel has stuck on releasing 2 films a year with a simple rollout schedule: took a year off entirely in 2009, released one in 2010, two in 2011, and one each in 2012 and 2013.

Marvel has been enjoying great success at the box office since 2014 non-stop and giving hits every year.

Now we are assuming that the upcoming phase of Marvel may have to change Marvel’s terms of movie release per year.

The release schedule of two films a year continued with Phase 2, and Phase 3. Now, 2021 could be the first year ever to have four Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

In 2017, Marvel shifted to producing 3 films per year and continued in 2018 and 2019. As we know, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame already hit the theaters with Spider-Man: Far From Home slated to release on July 2. With this, Marvel is wrapping the Phase 3 completely.

Marvel’s heads haven’t shared any details about the upcoming Phase but we now have a general idea about the release dates and some speculated movie in production set through 2022.

Marvel may continue its three movies per year model but since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has got delayed and it has changed the further plans.

As part of Disney’s official slate, they currently have three Untitled Marvel Movies attached to release dates in 2021.

It indicates that even then they had a general idea of what their output could be, and much of their plan has started to come into focus.

This year we have already seen 2 Marvel films and one more to be released next month. Now, a new rumor suggests that Sony could add Spider-Man 3 to the lineup this year too.

We know Sony and Marvel Studios share Spider-Man’s character with Marvel having rights to control the plot of Spider-Man solo movies.

The deal was official in 2015 for sharing rhe rights of the character involving Spider-Man. Tom Holland has been a part of Marvel since then and has been a part of 5 Marvel movies till now including Far From Home.

Predicting Marvel 2021 slate

If this all does come to pass, then 2021 will be the first time where four MCU movies are released in the same year. The good news for Marvel Studios is that they would have Sony’s help on one of those movies. Here’s our prediction:

Shang-Chi in February 2021

Black Panther 2 in May 2021

Spider-Man 3 in July 2021

Doctor Strange 2 in November 2021

However, they can each still be independent of the rest and mix up the genres. Shang-Chi should be an action-heavy movie with globe-trotting potential, while Black Panther 2 may very well be isolated to Wakanda.

Spider-Man 3 could go in several different directions, and Doctor Strange 2’s ability to dive into different realms, realities, and timelines is a unique aspect.

While the latter three all have to take place post-Avengers: Endgame, it is possible that Shang-Chi is set during the five-year gap instead showing him rising to be a hero during a time of chaos.
