Three Sony Marvel Movies That May Be Canceled After Kraven the Hunter’s Release

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Faces Uncertainty: Three Marvel Movies at Risk of Cancellation
Marvel fans might face disappointment as Sony’s Spider-Man Universe appears to be nearing a potential halt. Following the anticipated release of Kraven the Hunter, reports suggest that Sony may shelve several planned Marvel projects indefinitely. While the MCU has long been a reliable source of superhero blockbusters, Sony’s separate Spider-Man Universe faces significant challenges.
Here’s a closer look at the three Marvel movies that are reportedly at risk of cancellation:
1. Knull/Symbiote Film
Sony hinted at expanding the Venom franchise with a potential storyline centered around Knull, the King in Black, a powerful figure in the Marvel Symbiote lore.
The post-credit scenes of Venom: The Last Dance strongly teased Knull’s arrival. In one scene, Knull ominously declares, “Your champion has fallen, the King in Black is awake. Your world will burn, and you will watch!”
Another scene teased the escape of a Symbiote, suggesting future stories tied to this loose thread. While fans speculated about a Knull-centric project or another Symbiote-focused movie, Sony never officially confirmed these films.
However, with reports that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe may end after Kraven the Hunter, it seems increasingly unlikely that Knull will make his big-screen debut anytime soon.
2. El Muerto
In 2022, Sony announced El Muerto, a film starring global music icon Bad Bunny. The movie was set to explore the story of a superpowered luchador, aligning with Bad Bunny’s passion for wrestling.
Sony made a high-profile announcement at CinemaCon 2022, even bringing Bad Bunny on stage to highlight the project’s significance.
However, production hit roadblocks due to Bad Bunny’s packed tour schedule, delaying development. Additionally, multiple script rewrites further stalled the project, casting doubt on its viability.
While Sony never officially canceled El Muerto, the film’s uncertain status and now-reported plans to wind down the Spider-Man Universe strongly suggest it may never see the light of day.
3. Hypno Hustler
In late 2022, Sony revealed plans for Hypno Hustler, a movie starring and produced by Donald Glover. The film would explore the titular Spider-Man villain, who uses hypnotic technology in his musical instruments to rob his audiences.
This project garnered significant buzz, especially as it marked a historic moment for Donald Glover. It would make him the first actor to portray two distinct characters in live-action Spider-Man franchises, following his role in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Despite the initial excitement, there have been no major updates about Hypno Hustler since the announcement. With Sony potentially scaling back its Spider-Man Universe, this quirky villain’s story is likely to remain untold.
