Times When Marvel Killed Agent Coulson In The MCU
And once again Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. killed Phil Coulson. Here are how many times has he died and been reborn in one way or another?
Marvel Studios is famous for its “fake deaths“, with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) proving particularly resilient. Technically the end of The Avengers: Infinity War is Marvel‘s biggest counterfeit death gambit, with half the universe killed by the fingers of Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Coulson’s First Death & Resurrection
Coulson‘s first death is still his most spectacular. S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was instrumental in assembling the Avengers, but the Trickster God pulled him out of his cell in the Helicarrier. Coulson aimed a powerful weapon at him, but Loki teleported behind Coulson and stabbed him in the heart.
Coulson was resurrected using Project T.A.H.I.T.I. It had a drug called KH.325, which was obtained from Kree blood. Unfortunately, the process was dangerously unstable, and Fury had to run a memory wipe on Coulson to make sure he had maintained his sanity.
Coulson Faked His Own Death
Coulson‘s next “death” was in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2, when he and May carry a high-ranking Hydra prisoner named Sunil Bakshi. Hydra agents attacked prison transport, and Coulson and May were shot in the shootout. In reality, it is cheating, with Bakshi leading S.H.I.E.L.D. Strike Team directly to Hydra bosses.
Coulson Died Again In Agents Of SHIELD Season 5 – Several Times

He died almost twice – once when he was struck by an L.M.D. and again by heart failure. S.H.I.E.L.D. got all desperate to find a way to keep him alive, but in the end, Coulson decided to sacrifice to save the land.
Appropriately, Coulson died peacefully on Tahiti Island, beside Agent May – the woman he loved.
The Coulson L.M.D. In Season 7
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 team is involved in the Time War against Chronicoms, and they need a fanboy knowledge of Coulson‘s S.H.I.E.L.D. History. To that end, Simmons built Coulson L.M.D. to work with him, programming L.M.D. with Coulson‘s memories.
That proved short-lived, and among the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7, Episode 6 Coulson sacrifices himself to destroy the L.M.D. Chronicom ship. Given the S.H.I.E.L.D. L.M.D. has records of technology and Coulson‘s brain waves that they can actually bring him back.
