Toyotarou Unveils Akira Toriyama’s Illustration of Piccolo in DBS Chapter 103’s Ending

The Illustrator of the Dragon Ball Super Manga Series Toyotarou opened up on his Twitter account and revealed Toriyama’s correction in the Piccolo scene in the final chapter of the manga series.

Toyotarou showed his sketched-out original draft for the final chapter 103 and also revealed how the final page looked after Akira Toriyama’s Input. While the original draft of the chapter simply showed the heroes flying away after picking up Pan from Kindergarten. The Finished page showed Piccolo turning around to wave and smile before departing.

Toyotarou explained that Toriyama requested that the character of Piccolo should be shown offering a farewell to Pan’s Kindergarten Teacher.

Toyotarou also shared that while he submitted the Chapter draft before the death of the legend Akira Toriyama. So, he didn’t draw piccolo with the intention of its paying tribute to Akira Toriyama. But now he can’t help but add another meaning to it.

“So it was not with that intention that I drew Piccolo. But I can’t help but add another meaning to it. Toriyama-sensei, thank you very much for your hard work. To think that I was able to work with you for 9 years is like a miracle.”

“I humbly pray for your soul to rest in peace.”  

 Dragon Ball Super manga series

Dragon Ball Super is a Japanese manga series written by Akira Toriyama and Illustrated by Toyotarou. The manga is Simul-published in English by Viz Media and by Shueisha on their Manga Plus platform. It was the final manga that Toriyama had any involvement with before his death in March 2024.

Set during the time frame of Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball manga, it follows the adventures of Son Goku and friends during the ten-year time skip after the defeat of Majin Boo.

An Anime Television Series by Toei Animation also aired from July 2015 to March 2018 in Japan. A sequel film Dragon Ball Super: Broly was also released in December 2018 and became the Highest growing Anime film of the Franchise.
