Ultron Delayed to Marvel Rivals Season 2

Fans of Marvel Rivals were eagerly awaiting Ultron’s release as one of the first downloadable content (DLC) characters, but the villain’s debut has been delayed to Season 2, much to the disappointment of the community. Initially teased as a character who would launch alongside the game’s post-launch content, Ultron’s absence from Season 1 has raised questions about his role in the game’s future updates.
Ultron: A Strategic Powerhouse
Ultron, the menacing AI villain from the Marvel Comics universe, was among the first DLC characters to leak from Marvel Rivals. These leaks revealed a wealth of information, including Ultron’s in-game design, abilities, and a glimpse at his potential in the arena. He will be a Strategist (support) character, capable of powerful flight and offering both offensive and defensive abilities.
According to leaks, Ultron will bring a unique set of abilities to the game, including:
Encephalo-Ray: A devastating energy beam that burns through enemies.
Rage of Ultron: Summon Ultron drones to fire Encephalo-Rays, dealing damage to enemies or healing allies.
Dynamic Flight: Fly quickly in the direction of movement, transitioning into a free-flight mode for increased mobility.
Imperative: Patch: Command a giant drone to follow an ally, healing allies in its radius and providing additional healing to the designated ally.
Imperative: Firewall: Summon drones to grant bonus Health to allies within range, focused on Ultron and the designated ally marked with Imperative: Patch.
Algorithm Correction: A special maneuver where Ultron can slow his descent, allowing for precise positioning and evasive tactics.
Ultron’s ability to both heal and deal damage with his drones offers a strategic edge, making him an interesting addition for players who enjoy support characters with a lot of tactical versatility.
Why the Delay?
When Marvel Rivals launched, fans were expecting Ultron to be one of the first DLC characters, especially given the leaks and early character designs. However, Season 1 kicked off on January 10, 2025, with no sign of Ultron. Instead, the Fantastic Four characters—Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman—were the primary new additions, with Human Torch and the Thing expected to follow later in the season.
The delay was confirmed when popular leaker @RivalsLeaks tweeted that Ultron’s release would be pushed to Season 2. While many insiders had assumed Ultron would be available early on, it seems that his debut will now align with the Season 2 content cycle, which is expected to begin in April 2025.
As each Marvel Rivals season is designed to last three months, the next wave of content will likely arrive in April, with Season 2 bringing two new playable characters. If Ultron does indeed make his debut in Season 2, he could be one of the first characters released, likely around mid-April, or possibly later in May or June as part of the season’s mid-cycle update.
Although no official confirmation has been made, Blade is another character that has been teased for Season 2, and the combined release of these two powerful characters could help further shake up the game’s competitive landscape.
Ultron’s Place in the Marvel Rivals Universe
In the Marvel Rivals universe, Ultron is presumably created by Tony Stark, similar to his origins in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although characters like Hank Pym (the original creator of Ultron in the comics) and Ant-Man have not yet appeared in the game, Stark’s version of Ultron will likely be the focus in this alternate Marvel universe.
The excitement surrounding characters like Ultron is only building as Marvel Rivals continues to roll out new seasons. While his delay might be frustrating for some, the upcoming arrival of Ultron in Season 2 promises to be worth the wait, with his strategic support abilities adding a unique dimension to gameplay.
