VisionQuest Confirms a New Villain Lineup as It Moves Beyond Agatha Harkness

Disney+’s VisionQuest, the third entry in the WandaVision trilogy, is officially leaving behind the original show’s main villain and replacing her with a far more dangerous set of adversaries. The 2026 series follows White Vision as he searches for purpose and identity after gaining the original Vision’s memories.

While plot specifics remain tightly guarded, one topic has become central among fans — the villains who will challenge Vision next.

Why Isn’t Agatha Harkness the Villain of VisionQuest?

Following the events of Agatha: All Along, Agatha Harkness is technically “dead” and now exists as a ghost. This leaves her unable to serve as the primary antagonist in VisionQuest. Instead, the mantle passes to three new threats:

  • Jocasta
  • Paladin
  • Ultron (in human form)

However, Agatha’s involvement isn’t impossible. Agatha: All Along ends with her teaming up with Billy Maximoff to find his missing brother Tommy — who is confirmed for the cast of VisionQuest. This connection leaves the door open for at least a cameo or small role.

Who Is Jocasta and Why Is She Important to VisionQuest?

Jocasta, a major figure from Marvel Comics, is a sentient artificial intelligence with vibranium-enhanced strength, superhuman intellect, and flight. Created by Ultron to be his bride, she often serves as both an enemy and, eventually, a reluctant ally to the Avengers.

In VisionQuest, she may be positioned as:

  • A direct antagonist to Vision
  • A key to revealing Ultron’s deeper plan
  • A threat to Vision’s reunion with Tommy Maximoff

The spin-off is expected to explore why Jocasta has a personal vendetta against Vision and how her origins tie into Ultron’s return.

Why Is Paladin Hunting White Vision?

The show also introduces Paladin, a mercenary and private investigator with super-soldier-level combat training. Unlike Jocasta or Ultron, he is entirely human.

His motivations remain unknown, but several possibilities align with MCU history:

  • SWORD or the Department of Damage Control may have hired him.
  • He could be tasked with capturing or eliminating White Vision, whom the government once controlled.
  • His involvement grounds the story in real-world consequences alongside the AI-driven threats.

Is Ultron the Secret Big Bad of VisionQuest?

Footage shown at New York Comic-Con 2025 depicted Ultron acting as an unlikely guide to White Vision, helping him navigate memories of Wanda. But this may be a façade.

Like Agatha’s hidden role in WandaVision, Ultron could be:

  • Pretending to help Vision while secretly manipulating him
  • Using Vision’s fractured identity to his advantage
  • Rebuilding himself through Jocasta
  • Feeding Paladin information to keep Vision off balance

This would position Ultron as the true mastermind behind every threat in the series.

Why Is Ultron the Ideal Replacement for Agatha as the Final Villain?

VisionQuest revolves around White Vision’s fragmented identity and emotional confusion — and no villain is more suited to exploit this than Ultron.

Their history is deeply personal: Vision is the one who destroyed him in Age of Ultron. Ultron’s presence allows the finale of the WandaVision trilogy to explore:

  • Vision’s lingering guilt
  • The consequences of AI creation
  • The complexity of memory, identity, and autonomy
  • A long-awaited rematch between Vision and Ultron

Ultron manipulating Jocasta and recruiting Paladin would tie all three villains into one overarching plan, mirroring Agatha’s layered manipulation in WandaVision.

When Will VisionQuest Release and Who Stars in It?

Created by Terry Matalas, VisionQuest stars:

  • Paul Bettany (Vision)
  • Ruaridh Mollica (Tommy Maximoff)
  • James Spader (Ultron)
  • Henry Lewis as DUM-E
  • Jonathan Sayer as U
  • James D’Arcy as JARVIS
  • Orla Brady as FRIDAY
  • Emily Hampshire as EDITH

The series is set to arrive on Disney+ in 2026.
