Actor Tom Holland’s audition tape for his role as Spider-Man is making the rounds online. Holland was selected as a Marvel superhero before the 2016 Captain America: Civil War.
In a two-minute video shared on social media, the actor shows a variety of scenes, including a screen test with Chris Evans.
“You’re going to play as big a role as Spider-Man anytime; there’s a big search,” Spider-Man: Homecoming executive producer Eric Carroll said in the video. “Sarah Finn and her team have watched over 7,500 tapes.” Marvel and Sony met more than 1,500 actors and then narrowed it down to six actors -Holland, Asa Butterfield, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer and Charlie Rowe.
There are several other crew members in the video who talk a lot about the actor. Robert Downey Jr. also works and talks about screen testing with Holland at the end of the process.
At the 2017 Ellen DeGeneres Show, Holland talked about how he learnt that he got the part. “I auditioned for about five months, and after my final audition, they said, ‘You’ll find out tomorrow.’ Fast forward six weeks I was still waiting, still waiting, then one day Marvel just posted on their Instagram- ‘Go to our website to find out who the new Spider-Man is.’ And that’s it, I found it online! They didn’t call me or do anything. “he said.
‘It’s great.’ And then [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige finally called me and said, ‘I have some good news, you’ll be Spider-Man.’ And I’m like, ‘I know, Kevin. You put it on Instagram. I’m 20, do you really think I’m not going to find it?”
Holland has yet appeared in five films as Spider-Man and will soon be returning to the third solo Spider-Man movie. ‘
