What Guardians 3’s Disney+ Release Means For Disney? When Will Disney+ Start Streaming Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

According to new info, MCU fans will not have to wait much longer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Disney+ debut.

The Phase 5 blockbuster and third and final film of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy just became available for digital purchase on July 7 and is expected to drop on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultron HD on Tuesday, August 1.

With Disney changing its release strategy, the question now is when should audiences expect Vol. 3 to begin streaming on Disney+.

When Will Disney+ Start Streaming Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

A new promo released by Disney+ and Marvel Studios revealed when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will start streaming on Disney+.

The brief teaser lists the threequel’s Disney+ debut as Wednesday, August 2, 89 days after its theatrical release.

The announcement trailer came alongside a new poster for the movie that also sports that August 2 release date.

This comes after Guardians director James Gunn had hinted that it would be some time before Vol. 3 hit the streaming service. In an Instagram comment, responding to a fan who asked about the film’s streaming launch, Gunn remarked “Not for a little while.”

What Guardians 3’s Disney+ Release Means For Disney?

This Guardians 3 release date comes amid Disney’s reshuffling of how it does its streaming release.

Gone are the days of the studio putting its latest blockbusters on Disney+ less than 50 days after release.

The initial change in Disney’s home release and streaming strategy not only lines up with Marvel Studios’ transition from Phase 4 to Phase 5 but also the return of former Disney CEO Bob Iger in place of the streaming-focused Bob Chapek.

And with so many changes from the studio, it has been hard to predict when its big-screen blockbusters would come to Disney+

However, this August 2 date may be the start of a new precedent for Disney (or at least Marvel Studios) releases. It comes one day after the threequel’s physical release date, exactly as the studio did with fellow Phase 5 threequel, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

This was a first since, prior to Ant-Man 3, Marvel Studios films had become available for streaming the same day as their digital purchase.

While so much remains in flux when, as Disney retools its Disney+ strategy, these two releases, may be a first glimpse at what the studio’s Marvel Studios release plans will look like going forward.
