It is a custom for every superhero to conceal their actual name. However, sometimes like in the case of Wanda Maximoff, it finally takes at least five movies to come into your superhero name.
Even though she got it late, the name just terrifies many. The power she holds is just extraordinary, and the name is nothing compared to it.
Ten Rings was introduced in the Iron Man films, and even up until the death of Iron Man himself, their true nature was not revealed.
Now that we are finally being exposed to the true nature and power of the organization called Ten Rings, we need a new hero to help defend the world from them.
Now, who better than the leader’s son, Shang-Chi. Shang-Chi, who will be played by Simu Liu, will be the first Asian Marvel Superhero in the MCU.
We are yet to learn the extent of his powers, and finally, Marvel decided to reveal his civilian name.
Like every superhero, Shang Chi has his own civilian name, Shaun. In the new poster released by Marvel, both Shaun and Katy are seen in front of a five-star hotel. They both are obviously the valet here.
Now, this civilian name does not sound Asian, as you have already guessed. Everyone, particularly from countries with long unspellable names, tends to anglicize their name when they come to the USA.
This can go the other way around where people just learn their name, but they don’t in many cases to people just make it into a common, easily pronounceable American name or English name.
We don’t know why Shang-Chi calls himself as Shaun, but we will be finding it out. Most of the people who have a name change do not prefer being called their actual birth name, let’s see how Shang-Chi feels about it.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is set to release on September 3, 2021.
