When Does The Current Events of House of the Dragon take place?

House of the Dragon has dropped its first episode, and the world of Westeros is lit up again with more politics, drama, betrayal, gore, and the mother of all, The Dragons.

In the prequel of Game of Thrones, we get to witness the history of the House of Targaryens, who successfully ruled the seven kingdoms for three centuries.

While all we got from the episodes of GOT throughout the eight seasons of GOT was simply the teeny tiny bit in the history of the house of Targaryen, this prequel sure has its own plot and storyline, which led to the events of GOT.

When does House of the Dragon take place?

The current event of House of Dragon takes place in the 9th year of King Viserys I’s reign and 172 years prior to the death of the Mad King, aka Daenerys Targaryen’s father.

The dynasty of the Targaryen before Robert’s Rebellion lasted for 300 years. Even though the madness of the Targaryen is deeply instilled in their brains, as we could see how even a kind king like Viserys I chose to kill his wife for an heir, we can see that the chaos in them is what put them up to the role of standing before Dragons.

Now, we also see that Viserys pass down the prophecy on the long winter that is about to take over in the future to the chosen successor of the throne, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.

House of the Dragon
Season 1

Not only does Viserys pass on the prophecy about the long winter he also tells us that the only way to win over it is when the seven kingdoms are united and on the throne is seated a Targaryen, well even though the ending was not good, but we could also see Jon Snow is the one from the prophecy.

While we have yet to witness each house contribute to the downfall of the Targaryen kingdom, we feel the first few lines from King Jaehaerys gave out the answer to it, “The only thing that could tear down the House of Dragon was it itself.”
