Will the Guardians of the Galaxy Appear in Avengers: Doomsday? New Report Reveals Their Potential Role
How Big Will the Guardians’ Role Be in Avengers: Doomsday?
A new insider report indicates that the Guardians of the Galaxy may have a smaller role than fans expected in Avengers: Doomsday. While the film already boasts a massive cast featuring Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and many others, the absence of the Guardians from the confirmed list has raised eyebrows. According to Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, the team’s overall presence will be limited, with only one member currently expected to appear in a meaningful way.
Why Won’t Gamora Return for Avengers: Doomsday?
Perez revealed that Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora will be “out of the picture.” He explained that Gamora’s unique situation serves a narrative function rather than a character-based one. Because the current Gamora in the MCU is a variant from another timeline, insiders believe her existence will be used to illustrate how barriers between universes are collapsing. In other words, she will be referenced but not physically appear.
Saldaña has also made clear that she is done with the franchise, reinforcing the likelihood of her absence.
Which Guardians Are Most Likely to Appear?
Perez said he has “not heard much about the Guardians aside from Star-Lord,” but confirmed that Chris Pratt’s character was previously expected to be involved. Star-Lord has been rumored for months as a potential player in Doomsday or Secret Wars, and his Earth-based setup at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 makes his return very plausible.
Pratt may even be positioned to assemble a new Earth-based team of misfits, a storyline insiders have hinted could unfold during one of the upcoming Avengers movies.
What About Rocket, Groot, Nebula, Mantis, and the New Guardians Team?
The rest of the team remains a mystery. After Guardians 3, Rocket Raccoon and Groot now lead a new lineup that includes Adam Warlock, Kraglin, Phyla-Vell, and Cosmo. None of them have been confirmed for Doomsday, and Perez had no additional insight on their involvement.
However, fans should not rule out surprise cameos. Reports suggest Marvel may host a second official cast announcement for Doomsday, which could reveal additional heroes such as Captain Marvel or a Spider-Man variant. The Guardians could still be included in this wave.
Will the Guardians Return in Future MCU Projects?
Even if their role in Doomsday is small, Marvel has not closed the chapter on the Guardians. The characters remain active in the universe, and Star-Lord’s return was explicitly teased at the end of Guardians 3.
For now, all signs point to Star-Lord being the lone representative of the team in Avengers: Doomsday, with the rest of the Guardians’ fate remaining open for future stories.
