What Will Marvel Focus on After Avengers: Secret Wars?

While Marvel Studios currently has its hands full wrapping up the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the studio is already mapping out its next major phase. According to trusted insider Charles Murphy, the top priority for Marvel after Secret Wars will be none other than the X-Men.

Replying to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Murphy revealed, “X-Men will be #1 priority.” He also mentioned Black Panther 3 and a Fantastic Four sequel as high on the list of upcoming projects. Beyond these, he added that he had “no further information” on what else would dominate Marvel’s next wave.

This aligns with several reports hinting that Marvel’s Phase 7 lineup will heavily focus on mutants, Wakanda, and the First Family of Marvel.

Why Are the X-Men So Important to the MCU’s Future?

The arrival of mutants has been teased for years, with small hints dropped throughout Ms. Marvel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and The Marvels. Now, it seems that Marvel Studios is ready to put the X-Men front and center.

Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is reportedly attached to helm the upcoming X-Men film. Though no release date has been confirmed, insiders suggest that the project will debut not long after Secret Wars.

The significance of this move is enormous. Secret Wars is expected to serve as a soft reset for the MCU, reshaping timelines and possibly reintroducing characters through new versions. With the old Avengers lineup fading, the X-Men will give Marvel a fresh foundation of heroes and storylines to build the next era upon.

How Will Mutants Redefine the MCU?

Reports indicate that Marvel’s post-Secret Wars storytelling will be divided into three main arcs: the supernatural, cosmic, and mutant branches. This structure positions mutants as a core pillar of the MCU moving forward.

By introducing the X-Men and crafting a new Thanos-level villain within their universe, Marvel can rebuild its cinematic landscape with renewed momentum and creative freedom.

As Murphy noted, “X-Men will be #1 priority,” and given their massive fanbase and storytelling potential, that focus could be exactly what the MCU needs to enter its next golden age.
