Recap of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon Episode 31

Episode 31 revolved around Setsuna and Towa’s fight against a group of Earth-Demons. As they go through several battle rounds, both of them end up facing important lessons about themselves, along with what their goals are. This episode offers some very interesting character exploration, especially in Towa’s case.

Earlier in the episode, we see Setsuna suggesting to Towa that she should return to the present and that Towa should trust that she’ll be the one to deal with Kirinmaru’s defeat. The reason Setsuna tells Towa to go back to the modern era was because she knows Towa will be safe there and that she can’t deal with Kirinmaru.

We also see Kohaku giving advice to Towa and helping her see her areas of weakness and how to improve. Towa needs to let go of the past in order to have a future and until she does that, she won’t be able to grow. It seems like Setsuna has started her growth, but Towa is still stuck in the past and dwells on her regrets, especially the moment she considers to be her biggest failure when she abandoned Setsuna in the fire.

Until Towa moves on from this and realizes Setsuna is a capable person in her own right, she will neither grow nor attain the full potential of her powers. But it’s a huge moment of improvement for her that she realizes in order to protect Setsuna, she needs to let go of Setsuna a bit sometimes.

The one who shows more crucial growth though is Setsuna as she now has a goal to work towards. She’s started to think about herself not just as a demon slayer but also as a sister and a family member. Setsuna also receives advice from Hisui on the need to strengthen her bond with her weapon as she can’t see the threads of fate right now. It’s wholesome to see Setsuna and Hisui becoming more confident in their relationship.

Meanwhile, Moroha also gets some screen time as she takes up a job as a bodyguard. One interesting reveal is that the main cast of Yashahime thinks that Inuyasha and Kagome are dead. When Hachi assumes that Inuyasha and Kagome are dead, Moroha thinks that she saw them in the afterlife and her eyes well up with tears.

Another interesting part of this episode is shown when Riku sends Rion to go talk to Zero. Rion shares that Setsuna was able to sever her ties of fate so now, Zero probably realizes her connection to Rin can be severed too. Rion asks Zero for help in stopping Kirinmaru but the look that Zero gives hugely implies that she can’t be trusted. Rion and Riku still care for Zero and want to save her but it seems like Zero is way past that point now and she can’t be saved anymore.

What Can We Expect From Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon Episode 32?

The title of the upcoming episode is “Nanahoshi’s Mini Galaxy”. We can expect the next episode to focus on Setsuna, Hisui and Kohaku and some other demon slayers on a mission. Hopefully, there are more wholesome scenes between Setsuna and Hisui as she seems to open up to him.

Also in the preview, Setsuna talks about showing her compassionate side more and it will be great to see this kind of development. We hope to see more speedy progress in Moroha’s case and that she’ll soon learn the truth that her parents aren’t dead. A heartwarming reunion between Moroha and her parents would deliver just the right emotional impact.
