High School DxD Spin-off Gets Release Window
Kadokawa has revealed a new spinoff series for High School DxD called Junior High School DxD, set to release on May 17, 2024. The first volume, “The Transfer Student is a Samurai Girl,” will kick off the series.
This spinoff was initially announced during the Fantasia Bunko Daikanshasai Online 2023 live stream event in October 2023, with additional details shared on the anime’s official Twitter account. It’s uncertain at this time whether the spinoff will be a single volume or a full series.
Ichiei Ishibumi is recognized for the original concept and general oversight of Junior High School DxD. Rippu Shinonome is crafting the spinoff’s narrative, while Miyama-Zero is handling the illustrations for the series.
Plot and Synopsis
Junior High School DxD will occur following the occurrences of the original anime. We’ll follow an unnamed descendant of Miyamoto Musashi who experiences a drastic change in her life upon inheriting a magical sword. This blade possesses an extraordinary ability to enhance its wielder’s strength by altering the size of their chest.
High School DxD, conceived in September 2008, originated in Dragon Magazine by creators Ichiei Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero. The narrative gained worldwide recognition after TNK transformed it into an anime, currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
The plot for High School DxD is described as:
“On Earth, a battle between heaven and hell is underway, while Issei is dealing with his romantic desires. His first date takes a wild turn when he’s attacked by a winged creature, but he’s saved by Rias, a charismatic redhead who leads The Occult Research Club. Despite its name, the club doesn’t just study the occult – they’re involved in it, and Rias is a Devil.”

Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero released the High School DxD light novels from September 20, 2008, to March 20, 2018, totaling 25 volumes. A sequel light novel series titled Shin High School DxD began on July 20, 2018, with four volumes out by February 20, 2020. However, due to Ishibumi’s health issues, the sequel series has been on hold.
The series also includes four collections of short stories, spinoff novels, manga series, and video games. It has been adapted into four TV anime seasons released in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018. TNK produced the first three seasons, while Passione handled the fourth.
