Light Novel ‘Liar Liar’ To Get Anime Adaptation

This Thursday the Kadokawa publishing house announced the production of an anime adaptation of the light novel Liar Liar by Haruki Kuō . In the announcement of this project and in the presentation trailer it is not specified what format this anime will have.

The video features the actress Akari Kito (who played the role of Nezuko Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as the narrator and coinciding with the date, the video begins with a “It’s April Fool’s day, but this is not a lie. An animation project for ‘Liar Liar’ is underway!”

Apart from the video, little else is known about this Liar Liar project.

“Liar Liar” is a light novel based on Haruki Kuō, and illustrated by konomi of the illustrator unit “Kinoko no Mi”. Set in Gakuenjima (Academy) where students fight to decide the rank, the main character, Hiroto Shinohara, fights with lies and bluntness as a weapon. The novel has been released up to Volume 7, the latest on March 25, 2021. It is currently being published by Kadokawa.

A comic adaptation has been created by Funa Yukina and has 2 compilation volumes, the second of which was released in Japan in November last year.

Synopsis of the novel:

“Academy” is a school island where students compete against each other in a duel called a “game” to determine their rank. Hiroto Shinohara scored the highest on the school island entrance exam, which is the most difficult in Japan, and beat last year’s overall champion, Sarasa Saionji, on the first day of school. He becomes the “Seven Stars”, who reigns over all, being the fastest than any other in history. In order for it to fulfill its purpose on the island, it has to stay on top even if it is a lie. To do so, he will use anything, including the trap of Himeji, the beautiful maiden who assists him as his teacher, and his complicity with Saionji, who is actually a false lady.
