Avengers: Doomsday Script Reportedly Unfinished—Should Fans Be Concerned?

The Russo Brothers and the crew of Avengers: Doomsday are in full swing with pre-production, but rumors suggest that not everything is running smoothly behind the scenes.
The highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release in 2026, will mark the grand reunion of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. With a historic ensemble cast featuring characters from X-Men, Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Thunderbolts, and more, the film is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Marvel projects to date.
Is Avengers: Doomsday Facing Script Issues?
According to industry scooper DanielRPK, the script for Avengers: Doomsday is still not finished, despite filming being scheduled to commence in April. This revelation has sparked concern among Marvel fans, especially given the recent struggles with MCU storytelling quality.
Adding to the uncertainty, fellow insider Jeff Sneider shared via The Hot Mic Podcast that Marvel Studios is still finalizing the film’s characters and cast. This is particularly alarming considering that costumes are already being fitted and sets are under construction.
The MCU has faced heavy criticism in recent years for delivering half-baked scripts, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Secret Invasion being prime examples. Given that Marvel has a history of making last-minute script changes, fans are understandably skeptical about whether Doomsday will be able to avoid similar pitfalls.
Should Fans Be Worried?
While an incomplete script may sound like a red flag, it’s worth noting that the original Iron Man also lacked a finalized script during production—yet it became one of the most beloved MCU films. However, Avengers: Doomsday is a much larger and more complex project, involving multiple superheroes and interconnected storylines.
That being said, Marvel fans should take these reports with a grain of salt. The Russo Brothers have consistently delivered critically acclaimed and commercially successful Marvel films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame. Given their track record, there’s reason to believe they can navigate any challenges that arise.
The Future of the MCU
Many critics have declared that the MCU has been in a slump since Avengers: Endgame, but recent projects like Deadpool & Wolverine, Agatha All Along, and Daredevil: Born Again suggest otherwise. Furthermore, Marvel Studios is now back under the careful leadership of Disney CEO Bob Iger, who has emphasized a shift toward quality over quantity.
With Captain America: Brave New World marking the final installment of the Bob Chapek era, Marvel has the opportunity to course-correct and return to its former glory. While the reports of Doomsday’s script delays might be concerning, it’s premature to count Marvel Studios out just yet.
