Emily In Paris: Another Sex And The City?

Give it to Darren Star to keep us hooked to his shows. ‘Emily in Paris’ might be the vacation we all needed and deserved.

Millennial

Emily in Paris‘, as the title suggests, takes place around the flirtatious and charming city of Paris. Emily Cooper played by Lilly Collins (who recently got engaged), is a 20 something American Millennial who will jump at the opportunity of working in Paris without second thoughts (won’t we do the same?).

Cliché Rom-Com

Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City and Younger, has done it again. ‘Emily in Paris‘ is the cliché Rom-Com but somehow makes us want to press the next episode button. It’s just impossible to come out of the life where we suddenly have become Emily and taking out our pandemic cancelled vacation as her.

Sex And The City

If you liked Sex and The City, then you might definitely like this. ‘Emily in Paris‘ doesn’t follow around a group of friends as the former did. Still, it definitely keeps no pause or subtlety in bringing scandals, glamour and fashion into the mix. Emily might I say, looks like the mix of all the four. She is younger than the girls in the series but definitely has some of their traits.

Scandalous

Like any Rom-Com, she obviously finds herself in a love triangle. Like any luxurious businessman in Paris, her married client is ready to jump on her. Oh yeah forgot to mention, Emily is the marketing executive for a French Luxury brand which was acquired recently by Emily’s company back in Chicago.

BFF

Obviously like any good series, she gets a friend who knows very good French and is an American. Mindy played by Ashley Park is trying to avoid her dad, and some family drama so stays by Emily as she discovers, Love, Life and Fun. Emily in Paris has good casting, might I say.

Emily is shown as a typical millennial who is rooted in her phone 24/7 and is immediately hated by her new colleagues. As the episodes go on, she starts bonding and gets a hold of what she came there for. Also, she is terrible at French and might drown without Mindy sometimes.

If you are a wanderlust and glamour-lover and rom-com enthusiasts, then you will definitely love it. The series has been bought by Netflix and will release on Oct 2.
