Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse may not hit theaters until 2027, despite its original summer 2024 release plan. Reports suggest delays due to the demanding production of its predecessor, Across the Spider-Verse, where animators were reportedly overworked.

While fans were prepared for the sequel to take longer, rumors of an indefinite hiatus surprised many. According to insider Jeff Sneider, this movie might not release until 2027. With the recent news of Spider-Man 4 potentially arriving in 2026, a 2027 release for Beyond the Spider-Verse seems increasingly likely.

Sneider further claimed that Sony allegedly scrapped much of the film for creative reasons. If true, the extended timeline would allow for new creative direction and give animators time to avoid burnout.

However, Spider-Verse composer Daniel Pemberton and writer/producer Christopher Miller have both pushed back on these reports. Pemberton suggested that not all internet rumors should be trusted, and Miller confirmed that “nothing has been scrapped,” adding that production is progressing well.

Ultimately, it seems that the creative team is committed to taking the time needed to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great. With its groundbreaking animation styles and ambitious storytelling, the delay could lead to another stunning installment when it finally arrives.
