About The Case Study of Vanitas
The Case Study of Vanitas is set in 19th century Paris. It follows Noé and Vanitas, a mysterious doctor who specialises in vampires. They use the grimoire called the Book of Vanitas to heal cursed vampires.

Recap of The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 5
The Case Study of Vanitas hasn’t been released officially yet. It would be fruitful to recap what happened in Episode 5. Naenia is turned into a material form by Chloe who had been planning this for a long time.
Chloe is overcome by a maddening lust for revenge and she says that the d’Apchier family never abandons its people but she could never forgive Naenia for she defiled the name of the one man she loved, Jean-Jacques.
Vanitas explains to Noe that Naenia is the malnomen of Queen Faustina, the first vampire of the crimson moon. The Queen wounds the Beast and the entire space around the machine floats in the air. Naenia reclaims her incorporeal form and the place seems to be transported to another dimension.
Noe headbutts Vanitas and scolds him for not telling Naenia’s truth. They kick at each other hilariously. Roland comes to everyone’s rescue and kills the werewolves. Vanitas asks Roland to protect Gevauden as it is Chloe’s duty as a d’Apchier to protect her people. Roland leads his team in beheading the vampires in the woods.
Jeanne is in a dream-like state and a dark shadow with a candle appears and asks her to give up all desires and fail. Jeanne realises that she might be a puppet in this. We get a glimpse of Jeanne being rescued by three women and raised by Ruthven.
The shadow tells her that her foster parents conspired with vampires which took the lives of many. She’s just a tool, a bourreau. We see an ominous shot of Naenia floating over Jeanne.
Lord Ruthven appears and asks her to keep her promise to rest until the war is over. But she realises she has no choice but to kill the Beast of Gevaudan. However, Vanitas appears in her dream-state and tells her that it’s not too late to fix things.
Spoilers for The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 6
There are no official spoilers for this episode. The Case Study of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 6 is titled “Just the Two of Us”, so we speculate that Vanitas and Jeanne will team up to defeat the cursed Jean-Jacques AKA The Beast. We might even get more info on Jeanne’s past, besides getting to know what eventually happens to Chloe.
It would also be interesting to see how successful is Roland in defending Gevauden from vampires and werewolves and if the village reverts back to its previous state. Now that Naenia’s identity has been revealed, we can also expect more flashbacks from the past and even a direct confrontation between it and Vanitas or Chloe in the next episode
