Marvel Studios is gearing up to release its first Spider-Man animated series, introducing a new voice actor for Peter Parker instead of Tom Holland.

Since the late 2021 release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have eagerly awaited updates on Tom Holland’s return in a potential Spider-Man 4. However, details have been scarce. While Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will likely team up again for future Spider-Man films, including possible appearances in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, nothing has yet been confirmed.

Recently, Disney removed a July 24, 2026 release slot for an untitled Marvel movie from its upcoming theatrical lineup. This has led to speculation that the date may be reserved for Holland’s return in Spider-Man 4 in collaboration with Sony Pictures.

Meet Tom Holland’s Replacement as Spider-Man

The new animated series, titled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, will feature a different actor voicing Peter Parker. Unlike the live-action version, Marvel Studios has cast Hudson Thames as the voice of Spider-Man. Thames is no stranger to the role, having voiced the character in Marvel’s What If…? series. This news was officially announced during Marvel Studios’ Marvel Animation showcase at D23 2024.

It’s important to clarify that this version of SpiderMan will be a Variant from an alternate universe, separate from the main MCU timeline (Earth-616). This approach aims to ease any potential disappointment from fans expecting Tom Holland’s voice in the series.

However, some familiar MCU faces will still be part of the show. Charlie Cox is set to reprise his role as Daredevil, while Doctor Strange will also appear, though Benedict Cumberbatch’s involvement is yet to be confirmed. Given his previous work voicing Doctor Strange in What If…?, it’s likely that Cumberbatch will return for the animated series.

Marvel Studios has a history of recasting voices for their animated projects, as seen with Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff, who were voiced by Mick Wingert and Lake Bell, respectively, in What If…?.

Originally announced as Freshman Year in November 2021, the series was rebranded as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man by December 2023. Set to debut on Disney+ in late 2024, the show will explore Peter Parker’s origin story within an alternate timeline, separate from the main MCU. The animation style pays homage to the early Spider-Man comics and boasts a notable cast, including Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn.

During the D23 event, Thames shared his surprise at being cast again as Spider-Man after What If…?. He recalled, “I had no idea; it was just a phone call in the middle of the day. I thought they had the wrong guy, but it was the most amazing surprise ever.”
