Disney+ Adds 2005’s Elektra
On March 1, Disney+ added Elektra, the 2005 spin-off of Daredevil (2003), starring Jennifer Garner. Unfortunately, rather than excitement, its arrival is a reminder of one of Marvel’s worst-reviewed films.
Why Was Elektra So Bad?
Despite centering on one of Marvel’s deadliest assassins, Elektra was widely criticized for its lack of energy, a dull storyline, and a tone that failed to capture the excitement of superhero films.
Dull Action: The film lacked the thrilling fight sequences expected from an assassin-led story.
Weak Storyline: Instead of fully embracing Elektra’s comic book roots, the movie focused on a mother-daughter relationship, which felt out of place.
Joyless Tone: Unlike Spider-Man 2 or X2, Elektra leaned too heavily into a brooding, lifeless atmosphere.
PG-13 Rating: The decision to tone down the violence removed the intensity that made Elektra a fan favorite in the comics.
Its muted, uninspired aesthetic and predictable script only made matters worse. While Blade (1998) thrived with its R-rating, Elektra played it too safe, leaving audiences unimpressed.
