Samuel L. Jackson Returns as Nick Fury in Marvel’s Underrated Animated Series

The Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur finale featured a major surprise for Marvel fans, no other than Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury. While the series may not be part of the MCU canon, it has always been complementary to it, featuring familiar elements like SHIELD and Maria Hill.

With Disney unexpectedly cancelling the show, the creative team made sure to give Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) one last big moment by having her meet the legendary Director of SHIELD.

Nick Fury’s Role in the Moon Girl Finale

Following in the footsteps of Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury appears briefly in a SHIELD helicopter to give Moon Girl some words of encouragement. In his signature style, Fury tells Lunella:

“You know, you’re the one responsible for that, right? You inspired all these folks to do what you did not too long ago. Use your gifts to make your neighborhood a safer and better place. You’re not just a hero, Moon Girl, you’re a maker of heroes, too. And if you ask me, that’s the real Moon Girl Magic.”

His pep talk seems to have a significant impact, as it motivates Lunella to finally accept SHIELD’s offer to join a classified mission—possibly even involving the Avengers.

Other Marvel Cameos in the Finale

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury wasn’t the only surprise in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s final episode. The opening sequence also featured animated versions of several iconic Avengers:

  • Ant-Man (Scott Lang) – Sporting his classic Ant-Man look.
  • Hulk – Looks noticeably different, with a more chiselled face compared to his traditional MCU design.
  • Captain Marvel – Wearing an MCU-inspired suit, though with a silver accent on her chest.

Additionally, Sam Wilson’s Captain America made another appearance—this time showing his face—though it was ultimately revealed to be part of one of Lunella’s daydreams.
