The series follows Hajime Nagumo, who, along with the rest of his class, is taken to some other world to participate in a battle with demons. Hajime embarks on a journey to better himself and find a means to come back home after being deceived.
With 84,372 copies sold in the first half of 2017, the series ranked 27th in the list of the best-selling light novel series. In January 2022, Asread and Studio Mother released the second season of Arifureta.

The main character focus revolves around Kaori, as she tries to figure out her role in Hajime’s group and if she wants to stay in it. Before his Shadow-the-Hedgehog-ization, Kaori was one of the few who regarded Hajime with some respect.
All of Kaori’s revelatory ghost visions and strange possessions pale in comparison to her awareness that she must endure all of this in order to kiss Hajime. Hajime evaluates its vulnerability to magical ammunition right away, allowing him to shoot his companion several times in the face with no side-effects.
