Rumored Cancellations of Armor Wars and Blade

A recent rumor suggests that two upcoming MCU movies, Armor Wars and Blade, may be at risk of cancellation. If true, this would mark a significant development for Marvel Studios, which has never fully cancelled an officially announced project.
To date, no MCU project has been entirely scrapped after being publicly announced. The closest examples are Captain America: The Serpent Society and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While these specific titles were cancelled, the stories and franchises were not abandoned. Instead, they were replaced by Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Doomsday, continuing the respective narratives.
Marvel has also made minor adjustments to project titles or shifted storylines, but nothing has been fully cancelled post-announcement.
Rumored Cancellations
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel is allegedly weighing the possibility of cancelling either Armor Wars, Blade, or both. Richtman shared that the final decision could be made in the coming months, though the rumor remains unofficial and unverified:
“As for Marvel, they have at least five live-action series in development. I also hear a final decision on the fate of Armor Wars and Blade is expected in the coming months.”
Both projects have seen some setup in the MCU: Blade was teased with a voice cameo in Eternals, and Armor Wars ties into the aftermath of Secret Invasion, specifically regarding Rhodey’s storyline as a Skrull. If either project were cancelled, their narrative arcs could potentially be integrated into other MCU films or series.
How Likely Are These Cancellations?
If this rumor had emerged a few months ago, Blade’s cancellation would seem more plausible due to its multiple development issues and delays. However, recent developments suggest that the project is moving forward. A recent joke about the movie’s production challenges in Deadpool & Wolverine made fans speculate about its future, but Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, confirmed that Blade’s horror elements would differ from those in Agatha All Along, signaling progress.
Armor Wars
In contrast, Armor Wars has seen little public progress since the conclusion of Secret Invasion, where director Ali Selim confirmed it was setting up the Armor Wars movie. Originally announced as a Disney+ series, the project was later upgraded to a feature film, but it has since been absent from Marvel’s official release schedules. Given this, its cancellation would not be entirely surprising.
While the rumors about Blade and Armor Wars potentially being cancelled remain unconfirmed, Marvel fans are left waiting to see if the studio will move forward with these projects or decide to scrap them. Either way, the MCU’s storylines will continue to evolve, with or without these films.
